Attractions in Wales Cardiff, the Welsh capital, is a busy commercial and university city. It offers a city-centre castle, national museum and art gallery, and a redeveloped docks area. The Millennium Stadium which opened in 1999 is home to Welsh Rugby. Snowdonia, Britain's second-largest national park after the Lake District covers 840 sq miles of North Wales. The highest peak in Britain, Snowdon, is 3560 ft. high. Thousands of visitors reach the summit by climbing, walking or taking the Snowdon Mountain Railway. The park also contains rivers, lakes, waterfalls, forests, moors, glacial valleys and a lovely coastline. Historical sites include Stone and Bronze Age burial chambers, Roman forts, Norman castles, steam railways and relics of the country's mining heritage. Wales boasts many seaside towns such as Llandudno, a popular seaside resort in northwestern Wales. The town owes its unique Victorian air to its architecture, lengthy pier, imposing promenade and the donkeys plodding up and down the sands which belong to a previous era. The 167-mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs along a coastline riddled with rugged cliffs, superb sandy beaches, rocky coves and tiny fishing villages. You’ll find gorgeous scenery and spectacular coastal walks.
